ABROAD SPENDING MONEY
should
you take your Euros in Cash, Travel or Credit Cards?

Preloaded Euro
Currency Travel Cards offer the security of Travellers
Cheques with the flexibility of a Debit Card and are a safer
alternative to carrying large amounts of cash abroad with you.
Working just like a MasterCard or VISA Debit Card, Chip & Pin protection technology
adds security at Supermarkets, Restaurants and Campsites abroad.
Preloading your Euro Travel Card when
the exchange rate is favourable - see chart below - can give you more
holiday money.
You can also top-up your Travel Currency Card online,
over the
Phone or by Text Message using your bank account debit card. Each time
you make a purchase or withdraw cash, the amount is immediately debited from your
card's account so you always know your latest balance.

Online banking transfers to preload or top up your card are
currently not possible.
It
is recommended that you have some local
currency in cash, so purchase your Euro notes online - Tourist
Exchange Rates. Some Bureaux have limited coinage available, but
most will not handle coinage. Eurotunnel Terminal and onboard
Ferry Shops can usually give
some Euro coinage in change if requested.
Most
Aires de Service, Aires Parking and Stellplatz take €1 or €2 coins.
So always come home with some spare Euro coins ready for your next
trip abroad.
Only one
UK Sterling credit
card is also designed to be used throughout the Euro Zone without
any transaction or exchange rate fees.
Only use your credit card to obtain emergency cash and, if offered "local currency
conversion", politely say ‘no thank you’.
